WebSep 25, 2015 · The difference in a hot day vs. a cold day is about 100fps. At 500yrds, the difference in an 85degree day vs. a 32degree day for the "extreme powder" is about 2". The difference between the 85degree day and 32degree day for the temperature-sensitive powder is about 6" at my elevation - so I'd call that a net of 4" for the powder effect.

WebMar 1, 2007 · The extreme powders seem to give good results, but I've switched all my long range loads to single based V V powders (VV165, 170, etc.) the reason being: lower flame temp than double based powders = longer barrel life since I tend to shoot a LOT, and less temperature sensitivity with single base vs. double based powders. Not great for 223 but IMR-4064 is one of the least temperature sensitive powders and is in the same class as the Hodgdon extruded powders in that regard. IMR and Alliant powders can get pretty sensitive,Hodgdon Extreme powders are all pretty temperature stable. That said,I just note what the temperature is when I do load testing,and adjust the loads when needed for different temperatures. treorchy train times
